Vision + Provision | Message Five
This new series is called “Vision and Provision.”
By ‘vision’ we mean the big spiritual questions of life:
❔ Why are we here?
❔ What is our dream for our life, and what is God’s dream for our life?
By ‘provision’ we mean the practical resources God provides to make dreams a reality: time, money, effort, energy, etc.
Scriptures | Matthew 28:16-20 | Perhaps the greatest spiritual vision ever given by Jesus was the Great Commission.
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” ~Matthew 28:16-20
Question 1 | You don’t have to have heard the sermon from Sunday, but if you were in church, watched online, or listened to the podcast, what stuck with you?
Question 2 | One of the key phrases in this scripture is “teach to obey.” This means we don’t teach just to teach, we teach in order to apply the teaching to our life. It’s not just about information, it’s about transformation. Our level of character should match our level of knowledge.
1️⃣ How would you describe your level of Biblical knowledge? Do you feel like you know a lot? A little? Not at all?
2️⃣ (harder question!) how would you describe your level of faithfulness and obedience to what you know? And how can you grow more in both knowing and doing?
Question 3 | In the scripture, Jesus says we should teach others (and ourselves) to obey everything Jesus commanded. As adults, often we KNOW better, but we don’t always DO better. In the message Jeremy gave these challenging questions:
1️⃣ What is one thing you know you should be doing, but are not currently doing? (We’re talking spiritually here, not doing undone laundry or flossing your teeth).
2️⃣ What is one thing you know you should not be doing, but are currently doing? Another way of asking the questions might be: Where are you avoiding? And where are you indulging? These are hard questions, but you can do it! Give it a try!
Question 4 | Jesus closes this scripture by saying that as we do these things, he is with us always, to the very end of the age.
❔ How do you experience Jesus being “with you?”
❔ How does the presence of Jesus change you?
