Vision + Provision | Message 12
This new series is called “Vision and Provision.”
By ‘vision’ we mean the big spiritual questions of life:
❔ Why are we here?
❔ What is our dream for our life, and what is God’s dream for our life?
By ‘provision’ we mean the practical resources God provides to make dreams a reality: time, money, effort, energy, etc.
Scriptures | John 11:25-26; Ephesians 4:1-2; Matthew 6:33
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” ~John 11:25-26
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. ~Ephesians 4:1-2
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ~Matthew 6:33
Question 1 | You don’t have to have heard the sermon from Sunday, but if you were in church, watched online, or listened to the podcast, what stuck with you?
Question 2 | The message was based around three words: Position, Posture, and Priority. The idea is that all people make decisions on the basis of these three things:
“Positon” refers to a belief or a standard or conviction, as in, are you for or against something?
“Posture” is not what you believe, but it is how you relate to others on the issue: are you quiet or loud, mean or nice, humble or strident?
“Priority” is determining how important this issue is in relation to other issues.
Is there a situation in your own life that comes to mind as you consider these three? How are you weighing your Position, your Posture, and your Priorities in that situation?
Question 3 | God made us so that we need all three: Position, Posture, and Priority. And Christianity always involves all three. For example:
➡️ John 11:25-26 is about “Position” – the belief that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. ➡️Ephesians 4:1-2 is about our “Posture,” that we have to relate to others with worthiness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forbearance.
➡️Matthew 6:33 is about the “Priority” of seeking God’s Kingdom first. Maybe you’ve gone to a church a lot, and maybe not.
But in your Christian experience, which of the three “P’s” has been emphasized more? Which has been emphasized less?
Question 4 | As Christians, our ultimate goal is Christlikeness. How can you align yourself with the Positons that Jesus had? How can you align yourself with the Posture that Jesus had? And how can you align yourself with the Priorities Jesus had?
