Vision + Provision | Message 10
This new series is called “Vision and Provision.”
By ‘vision’ we mean the big spiritual questions of life:
❔ Why are we here?
❔ What is our dream for our life, and what is God’s dream for our life?
By ‘provision’ we mean the practical resources God provides to make dreams a reality: time, money, effort, energy, etc.
Scriptures | 1 Peter 4:10; Psalm 24:1; Romans 11:36
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. ~ 1 Peter 4:10
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; ~Psalm 24:1
Everything comes from God; everything exists by his power; and everything is intended for his glory. ~Romans 11:36
Question 1 | You don’t have to have heard the sermon from Sunday, but if you were in church, watched online, or listened to the podcast, what stuck with you?
Question 2 | The main teaching point of Sunday’s message was that Christians are called to “The stewardship of everything.” A steward is a steward is a servant who has been entrusted to care for something they do not own. And Christian stewardship is rooted in the radical idea that ultimately God owns everything and we own nothing. God is the owner and we are stewards. Question: how does the concept of stewardship – that we are all stewards – challenge the thinking or the lifestyle of the world around you? What might be the benefits of adopting this radical way of thinking?
Question 3 | Jeremy shared that we are all stewards of at least 5 things. They are: time, money, energy, space, and a fifth one we’ll talk about later. Please spend some time exploring these four as a group. Here are some questions to get you started, but you don’t have to limit yourself to these questions. Which do you feel like you have the least of? The most of? Are there any of these where you feel like you’re an especially good steward? Are there any of these where you feel like you could improve your stewardship? Are there other things you are especially aware that you are a steward of in this season of your life?
Question 4 | The fifth thing we all are stewards of is something Jeremy called “the moment.” No matter what moment we are in, a good moment or a bad moment, we can all be good be stewards of the moment. How can you be a good steward of the moment this week?
Question 5 | At the end of the message, Jeremy shared that we are in an election week. And that can be good stewards of the moment by preparing for three things:
1. Prepare for slow election results.
2. Prepare for upset people.
3. Prepare to be a peacemaker.
Which of these three do you especially need? And how can you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus this week?
