Vision + Provision | Message One
This new series is called “Vision and Provision.”
By ‘vision’ we mean the big spiritual questions of life:
❔ Why are we here?
❔ What is our dream for our life, and what is God’s dream for our life?
By ‘provision’ we mean the practical resources God provides to make dreams a reality: time, money, effort, energy, etc.
Scriptures | Proverbs 29:18
Where there is no vision, the people perish:
but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. ~Proverbs 29:18
Question 1 | You don’t have to have heard the sermon from Sunday, but if you were in church, watched online, or listened to the podcast, what stuck with you?
Question 2 | In the scripture today, the word “vision” specifically refers to a word, a direction, a communication from God to us. In this sense, “vision” is not just what we want, it’s what God wants. “Vision” is not just a business thing (many books talk about vision as a business tool) but a spiritual thing. After the sermon, one person came to Jeremy and said of themselves, “I have a vision for my life professionally, but I never considered having a vision for my life spiritually.”
❔ What is your response to this statement from this person?
❔ And how would you describe the spiritual vision for your life?
Question 3 | Proverbs 29:18 is a fascinating little verse. Other versions of the Bible translate it like this: “Where there is no revelation people cast off restraint.” The Hebrew word translated “perish” or “cast off restraint” is actually related to hair! In other places, that is the word used to describe what happens when women let down long hair and allow it to be blown all over and tangled in the wind.
❔ Can you think of a time on your life when you felt ‘blown all over,’ without focus or direction spiritually?
❔ Can you think of a time on your life when you felt more content, more focused, more guided spiritually?
❔ How was the spiritual vision for your life different in each of these times?
Question 4 | God’s vision always looks like Jesus. God’s dream, God’s desire, and God’s will for the world always looks like Jesus. Jeremy ended his message with the question, “What if God’s Vision for You was not About you?” Give this some thought and prayer.
❔ What is your response to this question?
❔ How might you live differently as a result of this question?
