Do What Matters | 13 Holy Habits That Can Change Everything
Habit #9| Celebrating
We can celebrate God's love for us.
Scriptures | Psalm 100. Psalm 150
Our Holy Habit for this week is celebrating.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! ~Philippians 4:4
...
I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. ~ Romans 8:38-39
Question 1 | You don’t have to have heard the sermon from Sunday, but if you were in church, watched online, or listened to the podcast, what stuck with you?
Question 2 | In the Old Testament, God’s people celebrate over 15 major holy days, holidays, feasts and festivals. This is more than once per month! This means that celebrating was a regular practice, a monthly habit. How might it help us to make celebration a habit? What are the benefits to celebrating whether we feel like it or not?
Question 3 | In the Old Testament people sacrificed animals (also wine and grain
but mostly animals). But what did they do with the food, or the meat of the sacrifice? Sometimes, they took the food of the sacrifice and had a big community party with it! (See Deuteronomy 14:26-29). spiritually speaking, in what ways is a celebration also a sacrifice?
Question 4 | Philippians 4:4 says, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again:
Rejoice!” Some parts of the Bible are hard to understand, but this is not one of them! Do you rejoice? How do you rejoice? What helps you rejoice? What gets in the way of your rejoicing?
Question 5 | Jesus said that the Kingdom of God is like a party – a party where
everyone is invited, but not everyone comes. (See Luke 14:15-24). Likewise, God has given us so much to celebrate. Jeremy often says, to himself, “Don’t miss the party.” Of course, sometimes like is hard. But nothing can separate us from the love of God in Jesus, and we don’t want to miss the good things God is doing that can and should be celebrated. Consider this phrase: “Don’t miss the party.” How does this apply to your life? How can you “not miss the party” of what God is doing in your life right now?
